The 10 Biggest Business Trends for 2021 Everyone Must Be Ready For

2020 has been a tough year on everyone – many businesses and organizations have faced some form of struggle and every individual has dealt with some form of personal hardship. Now, in December 2020, the end of this turbulent year seems close and we hope to see a light at the end of the tunnel. However, the events of 2020 will have long lasting effects on business which won’t disappear when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st.

I read an article featured in Forbes magazine The 10 Biggest Business Trends for 2021 Everyone Must Be Ready for which I found interesting and decided to share my views on the topic.

The article covers 10 points which all businesses must be prepared for in 2021. Given the unusual circumstances of 2020, many of us, both professional and personal, were to some degree successful in proactively adapting to the ‘new normal’. Hence, going into 2021, we will be better prepared.

Working from home became the norm this past year. Many businesses came to the realization that this model works well for them. Work from home has caused companies to reevaluate their business models and this may continue well into 2021 and beyond.

Automation and business model innovation are two things that transformed the way we work. With the need to social distance, using AI technologies, augmented reality and so on became widespread. Being able to “try on” clothes, make-up and eyewear virtually became possible and this changed how businesses offer their services forever. Another trend was thinking locally instead of only globally, and being sustainable. With international supply chains being temporarily disrupted and the environmental crisis worse than ever, both these factors have impacted businesses and will continue to do so, for the best.

Executive search specifically is an industry which relies on direct human contact. Gauging someone’s personality and work ethic is based on interpersonal interaction. Newly formed teams or colleagues who have been working together for months, may meet for the first time in 2021, which will be an extremely valuable experience.

Numerous business trends which arose this year were born out of unfortunate circumstances. The silver lining was that they allowed us to rethink how we do business and engage with customers. It will be interesting to see how things evolve in 2021 and beyond.
